As is our local Penn State alumni tradition, we gather a couple of days early to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! This past Thursday night, we brought our Penn State & Irish spirit to Muldoon’s in Newport Beach.
This week three of our board members (Anna, Valerie and Katie) attended the Penn State Student Acceptance Reception at the Costa Mesa Marriott! It was so fun to meet prospective students and parents, and share tips, insights and information about what it’s like to attend Penn State.
On Sunday, February 10th, alumni from 12/14 B1G schools got together at Gable House Bowl in Torrance, CA for a fun afternoon of bowling and prizes.
We were so excited to kick off the new year with fellow Penn Staters! On January 1, the OCIEA Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association (OC PSU) hosted two Citrus Bowl viewing parties: one at JT Schmid’s in Tustin and the other at the Blue Beet in Newport Beach.
A good time was had by all at the OCIEA Holiday Mix & Mingle Networking Event on December 11, 2018 at The Blue Beet in Newport Beach.
Each year we ship Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream to Orange County to celebrate the end of the football season and to bring a bit of Penn State closer to our local alumni!
We had a wide variety of flavors to choose from including fan favorites Alumni Swirl, Bittersweet Mint, WPSU Coffee Break, Peachy Paterno, Peanut Butter Swirl, Death By Chocolate, Keeney Beany Chocolate, and a special seasonal flavor Apple Cobbler Crunch.
As is our chapter tradition, throughout November we collected donations (both food & monetary) for the Orange County Basket Brigade.
Since 1995, this wonderful organization has been helping to provide all the necessities of a Thanksgiving meal which are given to families in need. This year we collected several bags of food (we had two full Trader Joe’s bags from Blue Beet alone) and over $250 from Penn State fans at JT Schmid’s and The Blue Beet.
We turn 32 today! Yesterday we had a great time at both of our viewing locations, celebrating our birthday as well as the people who founded the Chapter 32 years ago. And Penn State beat Wisconsin, so that was a nice cherry on top!

Our local Penn State alumni had a great time on our annual Summer Bar Tour in Newport Beach. I took the free Balboa Peninsula Trolley so I wouldn’t have to worry about finding a parking space by the Newport Pier. They started this last summer and I highly recommend it. It’s free to ride, and free to park your car in the parking lot at Tustin St & Avon St, off of PCH in Newport Beach.
We started out at 2 pm at Baja Sharkeez. Only a handful of people were there that early, but by the time we left for the second bar, we were up to 9 people. Some of the early birds were Brian Snyder, Patti & Terry Brennan, and their Penn Stater daughter Caitlyn, visiting from New York. Sharkeez gave us a drink special of buy one, get the second for 50 cents. They also provided a free appetizer platter to share.
