Announcing our Scholarship Winners for 2019

Every year, our chapter awards scholarships to local Penn State students.  This year’s decision was the toughest the Executive Board has had to make. Although we consider all our students winners, this year we had the largest group of applicants ever!

Over 30 students from Orange County and the Inland Empire applied. From freshmen newly introduced to the Chapter to seniors who have applied in the past, the diversity of applicants was impressive and energizing. Since we’ve revamped our scholarship process, now having an online application utilizing Google Docs, more students to find it easier to submit and respond in a timely manner. Some even applied while at summer session at Penn State! Each submission shared a unique story, describing various backgrounds, interests, and financial need.

Although we wish we could have helped everyone financially, this year’s scholarship recipients are:

Erin Doolin, Senior from Mission Viejo
Fernando Munoz, Junior from Redlands
Remy De Guzman, Junior from Mission Viejo
Arianna Ricci, Junior from Irvine
Griffin Paler, Freshman from San Clemente

Collectively, they have some things in common: they are all driven, they attended high school in Southern California and they all took the leap of faith to attend the University we love. But individually, they are diverse, with GPAs that made us jealous, community involvement that made us proud, attending campuses across the entire Penn State network, and all with an eye on the future. It gives the Board great comfort knowing Penn State gets some of the best students anywhere in the country.

We are confident those students who applied, as well as all those who didn’t but are representing Orange County and the Inland Empire at Penn State or through World Campus, will be successful!

We encourage those who applied and will still be eligible to submit an application next year!
As we congratulate this year’s winners, let’s also give ourselves congrats on the money raised and time contributed by alumni and friends of Penn State that make this scholarship process possible.
